Hardware / a practical field guide

Check the whole keyboard-video-mouse chain

A KVM switch compatibility workbook for sharing peripherals between computers. This site covers physical switches, not Linux KVM virtualisation.

A focused guide, a worked example and a six-point action worksheet.

Start with the decisions that matter

01

02

03

Check USB behaviour separately

A concrete example

A two-computer desk has one laptop connected through a dock. The buyer checks the dock, switch, cables and monitor together at the intended display mode. A successful direct laptop-to-monitor test narrows a later failure to the added connection chain.

Turn the guide into an action plan

Use the worksheet to record evidence, open questions and the next person responsible. Check only the items you have actually reviewed. Download a text copy or print your working notes.
